Making passata, or tomato puree, is something common in Italian families. This video shows how the home grown tomatoes are prepared to make the passata.

You can use a hand operated machine if you are not making large quantities. In this case we are making passata for the whole family. Four families in fact, myself, my brothers and mum and dad.

It’s lots of fun and once ready, we have tomatoes sauce for the whole year. No chemicals went into growing the tomatoes and no chemicals in the processing stage either!
