When do we use TRACTION?
Traction is not for everyone
In this blog we are going to address the questions, when do we use traction. One of the questions we get asked often in our office is ‘Do I need traction?’ 3-4 people each week come to us as a last resort – having seen a string of other practitioner, physiotherapists, osteopaths and even other chiropractors.
Getting answers
As a chiropractor we see many people with underlying structural and postural issues that have led to the reason why they see us in the first place.
The problem is, these postural and structural issues had not been diagnosed for these people that come to us or if they have been diagnosed, or don’t have the treatment available to change and correct the abnormal curves.
Our goal at Errol Street Chiropractic Centre is to improve the symptoms, whether that is pain, stiffness, sciatica, numbness or headaches and we do that by utilising a combination of treatments depending on the presence or not of postural changes or deformities.
If there are no or minimal changes on xrays then we work with more traditional treatment of adjusting the spine to improve the function of areas that are stiff and restricted.
Chiropractic BioPhysics treatment protocol
If there are changes in spinal alignment are evident, such as side shifts, or an decrease in normal curves, then we add CBP to the treatment protocol. This can mean adding:
- Mirror image adjustments to improve function in globally
- Home Denneroll orthotic work
- In office Denneroll traction table work, generally if the problem is more chronic and has not responded to other forms of treatment or if the person would like to fast track their postural changes
- neuromuscular rehab exercises to retrain faulty movement patterns in their posture.
