These stretches will help anyone who is at a desk for prolonged periods of time, may help with headaches and elevated shoulders. It will also help with forward head posture. The 3 areas to stretch in the video are:
1. Anterior Scalene: This muscle attaches to the first rib and are located on either sides of the neck. To stretch this muscle grab the bottom of the chair to anchor the arm. Bend the neck to the other side rotating your head back to the side you are stretching. Hold for 20 seconds.
2. Middle Scalene: This muscle also attaches to the first rib and is located on either side of the neck, behind the anterior scalene. To stretch this muscle again, grab the bottom of the chair to anchor the arm, then bend the neck to the other side. Hold for 20 seconds.
3. Posterior Scalene: This muscle attaches into the second rib and is located on either sides of the neck behind the middle scalene. To stretch this muscle grab the bottom of the chair to anchor the arm then bend the neck to the other side rotating your head towards your armpit. Hold for 20 seconds.
To increase the stretch you can use opposite hand to gently pull the head a little further into the stretch.
